We are incredibly grateful to have Jenesia kicking off the 2nd annual Love Letter to Men Summit
Between Jenesa’s sultry knockdown vocals, Alexander’s mastery of strings and their talent for tasteful harmonies, Jenesia is a must-see. A powerhouse of musical talent, they are skilled at evoking emotion, story-telling and connecting with their audiences. In addition to upbeat and romantic melodies, they offer songs that tackle such complex issues as poverty, addiction, child sexual abuse, and domestic violence with a tact and authenticity that doesn’t overwhelm. Drawing on personal experience, they use their music as a platform for awareness and justice, endeavouring to become a voice for the voiceless. Jenesia truly has an innate gift for transforming tragedy into something beautiful.

More than a few women feel drawn to support these initiatives. Locally, we are learning how this model for men’s socialization fits into the rural/urban Alberta scene. The conversation about mental health and its relationship to suicide has increased in recent years. These conversations are critical and yet there is a need to also look at other drivers for suicide, particularly for high-risk groups such as men. This session will outline some of the social drivers for suicide in men and explore some of the underlying causes that create this vulnerability. Participants will be given the opportunity to reflect on the roots of their own male identity and be provided with suggestions on how to start conversations about suicide with other men in their lives.
Post-traumatic growth is more than recovering, it is about reconfiguration and becoming a better person than you were before the injury occurred. My journey from battling my demons to purging my nightmares in artwork is shared through images based on calls I have attended as a paramedic and firefighter. I will share how my job nearly destroyed my life and, although this is my story, you may connect with them through your own experiences and realize you are not alone in how you are feeling. More importantly, I will share what I did, and continue to do, to build resiliency and recover from my mental stresses. If I can do it, so can you.
